Stand With Dimock Day

August 16 @ 1:00 pm6:00 pm

Join us August 16 for a day of action with frontline activists in Dimock, PADimock frontline activists are inviting Pennsylvanians across the state to visit their community— an environmental justice epicenter—and join them in strategizing on ways to hold state leaders accountable for their inaction. A BUS will be taking us there!
Since 2008, Dimock residents have suffered from the harmful effects of fracking operations in their community. They say their pleas to leaders—especially Pa. Sen. Gene Yaw and Gov. Josh Shapiro—for clean water and justice have gone unanswered for years.
As attorney general, Shapiro charged Cabot Oil & Gas with polluting Dimock’s water supply. Last year, a plea bargain was negotiated with the company’s successor, Coterra Energy, which agreed to pay Pennsylvania-American Water Company $16.3 million to extend underground pipes to provide clean water to residents. However, a new public water system has yet to be installed.
“This will be a celebratory time for environmentalists and scientists across the state to come together and call out elected leaders who have ignored the plight of the longsuffering residents of Dimock,” said Ray Kemble, a local resident and clean water activist who is credited with helping to mobilize bans on fracking in New York and Maryland. “There are 100 million gallons of brine water being stored above my property headed for the Susquehanna River. It’s a fracking fountain.”
The event on Friday, August 16, will include a Toxic Tour of the Dimock community and industry sites, a tour of a soon-to-open environmental center, and a rally featuring speakers who will address the ongoing systemic violation of residents’ environmental rights. Elected officials and members of the media have also been invited to attend.
